Punjab Police Tries to Silence RTI Activist Over VVIP Plane Tender

In a recent development that has ignited controversy and prompted the questions about Aam Aadmi Party’s motives behind its spending, Punjab Police has made efforts to silence an RTI (Right to Information) activist. The focal point of this dispute revolves around the tender for a VVIP plane in Punjab, which has gained significant public attention and raised concerns.

The controversy began when an RTI activist, @ManikGoyal_ on X formerly Twitter, shared a document related to the VVIP plane tender. In the document, concerns were raised about the alleged misuse of public funds by the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. The accusation was that the plane was being procured for the election campaign of Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi and a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

Surprisingly, in response to the tweet, Punjab Police intervened, asserting that the document was sensitive and related to the security of state functionaries who were facing credible threats. Punjab Police contended that such documents were not meant for open public circulation.
